➤ 미소: 영준 씨는 꿈이 뭐예요? 

➤ 영준: 저는 BTS 같은 가수가 되는 것이 꿈이에요.

➤ 미소: 그러면 꿈을 위해서 무엇을 하고 있어요?

➤ 영준: 저는 꿈을 위해서 노래 연습도 하고 춤도 배우고 있어요.

➤ 미소: 꿈을 위해 노력하는 모습이 보기 좋네요. 응원할게요.

Miso: Yeongjun, what is your dream?

Yeongjun: My dream is to become a singer like BTS.

Miso: Then, what are you doing for your dreams?

Yeongjun: I'm practicing singing and learning to dance for my dream.

Miso: It's nice to see you working hard for your dreams.

2. Usage

❏ Noun + -을/를 위해서  + action/situation

   object/goal

❏ This expression shows that you are trying to benefit a person or an object or achieve a certain goal.

❏ In the following sentence, mainly talk about action to achieve that goal.

❏ Shorten form: -을/를 위해 (=-을/를 위해서)

❏ Written Korean: -을/를 위하여 (=을/를 위해서) (※ But, you can use '-을/를 위하여' in spoken Korean.)

3. Explanation

✎ 영준: 저는 꿈을 위해서 노래 연습도 하고 춤도 배우고 있어요. (꿈 + 을 위해서)

           goal: 꿈(dream)  action: 노래 (singing), 춤 (dancing)

✎ 나나: 제가 좋아하는 가수를 위해서 선물을 준비했어요. (가수 + 를 위해서)

           object: 가수 (singer)     action: 선물 (present)

✎ Yeongjun: I'm practicing singing and learning to dance for my dream.

✎ Nana: I prepared a present for my favorite singer.

4. Combination information

❏ It attaches after a noun.

(1) Final Consonant O: -을 위해서

- 가족 + 을 위해서 → 가족을 위해서

- 꿈 + 을 위해서 → 꿈을 위해서

(2) Final Consonant X: -를 위해서

- 엄마 + 를 위해서 → 엄마를 위해서

- 너 + 를 위해서 → 너를 위해서

5. Practice

1. 이게 다 (너) 하는 소리야

→ 이게 다 너를 위해서 하는 소리야. (너 + 를 위해서)

2. 저는 (가족) 외국에서 일하고 있어요.

→ 저는 가족을 위해서 외국에서 일하고 있어요. (가족 + 을 위해서)

3. 당신은 (돈) 어디까지 포기할 수 있습니까?

→ 당신은 돈을 위해서 어디까지 포기할 수 있습니까? (돈 + 을 위해서)
