➤ 나나: 미소 씨, 내일 약속 아무래도 취소해야 겠어요.

➤ 미소: 왜요?

➤ 나나: 지금 제주도에 있는데, 태풍이 오는 바람에 비행기가 취소됐어요.

             내일까지 서울에 못 갈 것 같아요.

➤ 미소: 아, 그래요? 그럼 어쩔 수 없죠. 다음에 보고 내일 조심히 올라오세요. 

(English)

Nana: Miso, I have to cancel tomorrow's appointment.

Miso: Why?

Nana: I'm in Jeju Island, but my flight was canceled because of a typhoon. 

      I don't think I can go to Seoul until tomorrow.

Miso: Really? All right then. See you next time and come up safely tomorrow.

2. Usage

▪︎ Verb + -는 바람에 (cause) + negative result / unexpected result

▪︎ This expression talks about the cause of negative or unexpected results.

3. Explanation

1) 태풍이 왔어요. + 그래서 비행기가 취소됐어요. 

→ 태풍이 오는 바람에 비행기가 취소됐어요. (오다 + 는 바람에)

       cause            negative result

2) 밥을 급하게 먹었어요. + 그래서 체했어요.

→ 밥을 급하게 먹는 바람에 체했어요. (먹다 + 는 바람에)

         cause          negative result

(English)

1) The flight was canceled because a typhoon was coming.

2) I ate in a hurry, so I had indigestion.

1. '-았/었/했-, -겠-' (X)

5. Combination information

▪︎ It attaches after a verb stem.

(1) Final Consonant O & X: -는 바람에

- 먹다 + 는 바람에 → 먹는 바람에

- 가다 + 는 바람에 → 가는 바람에

(2) Final Consonant ㄹ: (ㄹ탈락) + 는 바람에

- 만들다 (ㄹ탈락) + 는 바람에 → 만드는 바람에

- 놀다 (ㄹ탈락) + 는 바람에 → 노는 바람에
